I'm not partial to fiction, especially espionage thrillers, but this is a great one! The main narrative is about two brothers preventing an attack on America, but the sidebar story of the secession of Texas was priceless! How topical is that these days? The Big Dog will keep you riveted and laughing out loud at all the hilarities having to do with a state leaving the nation, only to have deal with borders, no NFL team and lots of corporations leaving the State (with its money) because Texas is no longer American. Pat Sheridan must have known a politician or two in his time that were as big a jerk as the Governor of Texas in this one. I loved this book.Product details

The Big Dog Patrick M Sheridan 9781463410735 Books Reviews
This grabbed me from the beginning and I read it in two days. I loved Patrick's style of writing. I highly recommend it.
This is a wonderful read. Right up there with Vince Flynn. It is scary how it ties in with current events. Interesting and informative about how our government works and problems with our political system. Characters and plot are super, a must read.
This book is about efforts to stop a terrorism plot on America. A sub plot involves a new Texas Governors influence on the citizens of Texas.
It is an easy read and a very plausible story of what could happen. I read it in just two nights
I have read all of Pat Sheridan's books and The Big Dog is by far the very best...I am an avid reader and my favorite authors are Follett, DeMille and Ludlum--Pat's work ranks right there with their books...He
blends international intrigue with national politics...And couples it with a bit of humor...His casting of Bull Borders is priceless and secession from the union can only be imagined...I have had the honor of meeting Mr. Sheridan and his intellect and creativity is commended...This is a five star read and becomes a real page turner as you enter the author's world of espionage and terrorism...
The Big Dog, by Patrick M. Sheridan
The Big Dog...is a story of international intrigue and suspense worthy of the attention of those who read Robert Ludlum or Dan Brown. Somewhat dystopian, the story takes place in the future, with President Preston Armstrong facing numerous challenges, including a serious run by Texas to secede from the Union, the ongoing barrages of conservative radio kook, Bruce Bimbeau, and gathering intelligence of a plot by unnamed foreign terrorists to wreak havoc on the American economy through an escalated series of attacks on the American Homeland.
In a well-conceived and well-written narrative, President Armstrong and his closest advisors in the CIA, the FBI, Homeland Security and the Department of Defense race against the clock to thwart the bad guys, using old fashioned sleuthing, new-age technology, off-the-radar diplomacy, and gut-level intuition. This is a cliff-hanger and a page-turner right down to the very end. Pat employs one very interesting technique herein. He names the major characters in the book after colleagues from his business career. There's even a not-so-major member of the New Jersey State Police named after me. This character doesn't amount to much, but I was flattered nonetheless!
I strongly recommend this book.
